21st April 2008

Great effort on Saturday - effort, attitude, team work cannot be faulted.  If we keep working hard we'll have a great season.

Nets on Tuesday, 6pm start (or as near to 6pm as you can make it).

We're going to work on bowling channels, general ground fielding / catching and working singles / running between the wickets.  Horsford will be a different proposition on Saturday, there wont be too many bad balls so we will need to be a bit more creative!

See you Tuesday,

Ground
Fantastic progress is being made at the ground.  Colin and his group of admirable helpers have been working tirelessly throughout the winter months, preparing a clubhouse which will be the envy of Norfolk.

It is important that all players recognise this effort, and offer assistance in the coming weeks with decorating etc…..  Please email Colin directly on ColinFeltham@aol.com if you can help.

The land at the south of the ground is being prepared by Chris Banham.  Chris is confident the land will be suitable for seeding in the spring, but unlikely that we can use the land as part of the ground until later on in the summer.

Therefore, the net facility planned to the south of the ground will be postponed to either later in the season, or even next winter.  In the meantime, we will have the use of the single net together with (hopefully) a mobile net for use on the square.

The Brooke mums are making great progress with the Children’s play area.  All is in place ready to prepare a safe, secure and fun area for the kids to play, to the north east corner of the ground.  As ever, the Brooke mums would be grateful for any unwanted toys.  It goes without saying that all children will be welcome to use the play facilities, if properly supervised.

Playing
I am delighted to tell you all that our overseas player for the forthcoming season is Vinay Parikh, who plays for Prahran in the Victorian Premier League, Australia.  Vinay is a 20 year old batsman (who also bowls spin).  We are hoping for great things from Vinay, and I know he is looking forward to the challenge of helping Brooke regain Premier Division status.  Find out more about Vinay at www.prahrancc.com.au  Vinay will be staying in Stoke Holy Cross, with Rob Dakin, and will be available in the week for coaching sessions for junior and senior members of the Club.

Vinay in action for Prahran 1st in the Victoria Premier.

We have friendly matches arranged for the 19th and 26th April, against Old Buckenham 1stXI and Horsford 1stXI respectively.  League matches start on the first Saturday in May, away to Diss.  We have been drawn in the Biss Trophy against Swardeston, and the Carter Cup against Norwich.

The 1stXI indoor nets have been very well attended, and with Chris Brown (NCC Coach) helping us, I am sure all players are improving.  I have been very impressed with all the guys, who are working very hard to improve their fitness and overall game.  This work ethic will surely pay off, but it has to continue until the season starts and throughout the summer, if we are to achieve our potential.

The 2ndXI / Club nets start on 13th February, at Langley School from 6.30-8.30pm, open to all.  Nets will run fortnightly until the season starts.  Full list of net dates below, all at Langley School at the same time.

06.02.08 (1stXI)
13.02.08 (2ndXI)
20.02.08 (1stXI)
27.02.08 (2ndXI)
05.03.08 (1stXI)
12.03.08 (2ndXI)
19.03.08 (1stXI)
26.03.08 (2ndXI)
02.04.08 (1stXI)
09.04.08 (2ndXI)

We realise it is not ideal segregating the net sessions, but unfortunately the facilities available for this winter have been limited.  Hopefully next season we will be able to combine all teams at a bigger hall with more nets.

Paul Daynes (2ndXI Captain) has asked that all 2ndXI players and youth players attend these sessions, in preparation for the forthcoming season.  1stXI players are also encouraged to attend although priority will be given to others.

Leigh Stamp has taken over the role of ‘tea rota secretary’, and is looking for volunteers for the season.  If you think you can help, please email Leigh at robin2036@msn.com
