Fielding a team with 5 players under the age of 20 Brooke won a very exiting game by one wicket against Martham
We won the toss and decided to bowl. Will Grisley claimed the first of his two wickets in the 10th over with the score on 39
A tight bowling spell by Ben Watson conceding only 23 runs from his 10 overs meant that when Sam Clabburn claimed the 2nd wicket in the 30th over the score was only 91
Sam claimed 3 more quick wickets and Martham were 101 for 5 in the 35th over
After 40 over Martham were 119 but then accelerated quickly aided by Brooke dropping 3 catches. They finished on a competitive 201-8. Brandon Ling is pictured taking the final wicket after a bowling spell that went for less than 4 runs an over
Brooke in reply made a steady start and had accumulated 89 runs when Ben Watson was out for 37
Matt Collinge was out next after scoring a quick 21 with the score on 127. That was followed by a collapse with Brooke falling to 136 -6 when opener Andrew Carver was out for 40
Sam Clabburn then joined Rob Setchell with Brooke now needing just over 5 runs an over. Sam then collapsed after completing his first run with a hamstring injury and Charlie Grisley had to come on as his runner
Despite his injury Sam scored a chanceless 43 from 26 balls and when he was out Brooke needed just 15 runs with 3 wickets left at less than 3 runs an over
However 2 wickets fell quickly and when last man Sam Hardesty joined Rob at the crease Brooke still required 10 runs to win. Great batting from Rob aided by great running by Sam enabled Rob to keep the strike for all but one ball of the partnership and with that one ball they ran a single to give Rob the strike back. Photo shows Rob hitting a 4 to bring the scores level
Rob Setchell concludes his captain’s innings by pushing the ball into a gap and taking a very quick single to enable Brooke to win a tense and exciting game.
