Saturday 29th August Match Report - Alliance Premier vs Mallards (Away) Rob Panter won the toss and asked Vauxhall Mallards to bat first – they went on to make 261 for 9 in their 50 overs with Ryan Finney hitting 62 and Ian Harrison 54. Rob was Brooke’s best bowler, taking 3 for 50, while John Habershon and Stuart Pritty took 2 wickets each, Simon Key and Vinay Parikh 1 each. The Brooke batsmen made a great effort to get these runs, but in the end were all out for 238 in the 48th over. Top scorers were Ed Sturman with 42, Chris Sheehy 38 and Ali Shearer 31. 4 of the Vauxhall Mallards bowlers took 2 wickets each. We ended the season in 4th place and this is the club’s highest ever position in the Alliance – a terrific result for all those involved. -----------------------------
Saturday 15th August Match Report - Alliance Premier vs Mallards (Home) After being put in to bat, Brooke ran up a massive total of 297 for 7 in 50 overs, the main contribution coming from a 3rd wicket partnership of 192, with great knocks from Ali Shearer (87 in 98 balls with 16 4s) and Vinay Parikh (80 in 103 balls with 14 4s). Stuart Pritty hit 27 not out in 15 balls faced near the end, while extras were 60, including 37 wides. Reino Arendse and Cei Sanderson both hit 50s for Vauxhall Mallards, but they were restricted by good bowling from Simon Key, Stuart Pritty and Chris Sheehy, who each took 2 wickets, and ended on 222 for 7 in their 50 overs. The winning draw for Brooke gave us 17 points to Vauxhall-Mallards 8. --------------------
Saturday 8th August Match Report - Alliance Premier vs Downham (Away) Rob Panter won the toss and we batted first, but were bowled out for 156 in 48.2 overs. John Reynolds top scored with 31, including 2 huge 6s, with Rob making 28 and Ben Prentice 24. Downham’s Steve Murdoch took 5 for 20 from 12.2 overs. Steve Murdoch (49 not out) and Pat Yates (39 not out) carried Downham to 160 for 2 and an easy 8 wicket victory – Stuart Pritty and Simon Key taking the wickets. ----------------------------
Saturday 1st August Match Report - Alliance Premier vs Swardeston (Home) After we were put in to bat, we scored 273 for 9 in our 50 overs. This was our best total of the season in the Alliance , except for when we went run crazy away at Topcroft. Ali Shearer top scored with an excellent 108 from 112 balls faced and he received very good support from Vinay Parikh (50 including 11 4s) and Chris Shearer (31 at a run a ball). The 3rd wicket partnership of 84 between Vinay and Ali and the 5th wicket partnership of 78 between Ali and Ben Prentice were records for this season to date. Brian Murphy hit a quick 126 in 115 balls for Swardeston, but all our bowlers kept them in check and they just fell short of the 90% with 243 for 9 – we ended with 18 points to their 10 points. The best partnership of the innings was for the second wicket, when John Habershon (35) and Vinay Parikh (41 from 36 balls faced) put on 61. With other good scores coming from Ben Prentice (29) and Stuart Pritty (32), we reached 220 for 9 in our 50 overs. Peter Sims was the away side’s best bowler with 4 for 49. Our bowling attack applied excellent pressure on the Lowestoft batting and they lost wickets at regular intervals. Top scorer for Lowestoft was Peter Sims, with 24. We eventually bowled them out for 152 in just under 45 overs, winning by 68 runs and collecting 24 points. The wickets were shared around, with John Habershon taking 3 for 32, Vinay Parikh 2 for 15, Stuart Pritty 2 for 34 (in 13 overs), Ed Sturman 2 for 34 and Rob Panter 1 for 9. -----------------------------
Saturday 18th July Match Report - Alliance Premier vs Topcroft (Home) After a week of heavy rain, the match did not start until 2.10 and was reduced to 30 overs. Rob Panter won the toss and inserted Topcroft on a damp wicket, where they found it difficult to get a move on and could only score 126 for 4. Phil du Plessis was their top scorer with 43 not out, while John Habershon was the pick of Brooke’s bowlers, taking 2 for 18 in 8 overs. Brooke cruised to the victory target in 16 overs – John Reynolds hitting 77 off 52 balls with 13 4s and 3 6s and along with John Habershon (33 not out) put on an opening partnership of 120 for the first wicket, easily a record for this season. -------------------------------
Saturday 11th July Match Report - Alliance Premier vs Diss (Home) Diss won the the toss and asked us to bat first under cloudy conditions on a damp wicket. John Habershon went off the first delivery of the match, but Rob Panter and Vinay Parikh put together a partnership of 40 to help pull things around. We then had our usual batting collapse and despite Vinay’s 44 (including 10 4s), we were 96 for 5 after 24 overs, before Ed Sturman came in and hit 55 off 56 balls, with 7 4s and 3 6s. After 45.3 overs we were all out for 185, giving Diss an extra 4 overs to get the runs. Henry Rush scored a quick 39 to give Diss a good start, but with excellent bowling from Brooke and negative batting, the visitors never looked like getting the target and ended on 171 for 9 in 54 overs (13 points for us and 11 for them). Star performers for Brooke were Stuart Pritty with 4 for 25 from 14 and Vinay Parikh with 3 for 19 from 8. ---------------------------------------
Saturday 4th July Match Report - Alliance Premier vs North Runcton (Away) North Runcton won the toss, put us in and after a good start we lost wickets quickly in the middle order, recovered near the end and finished on 213 all out in the 49th over. Vinay Parikh top-scored with 53, while Ali Shearer made 38, Ben Prentice 21 not out and John Reynolds 20. Darren Cubitt was the best bowler for North Runcton , taking 3 for 28. Despite excellent bowling again from Stuart Pritty (3 for 40 in 11 overs), North Runcton reached the target easily, thanks mainly to 107 not out from Pakistani international Tarfeeq Umar, who has played in 25 Tests and 19 ODIs for his country. ----------------------------------------------- Saturday 27th June Match Report - Alliance Premier vs Diss (Away) Diss won the toss and put us in to bat. We again lost early wickets and were 58 for 4 after 18 overs, despite a very good 38 from John Habershon, opening the batting for the first time in an Alliance league match. Ali Shearer played well again, top scoring with 41, including 5 4s and 2 6s, while Rob Panter hit 38 off 43 balls to help us to 186 for 9 in our 50 overs. Simon Cooper was the best Diss bowler, taking 3 for 39 in 13 overs. The Brooke bowling attack forced Diss back on the defensive and after Robbie Tooke was dismissed for 36, they gave up going for the win. They ended up with one ball remaining, needing 3 for 90%, but Rob Panter bowled a dot ball, leaving them on 165 for 9. We finished with 16 points, Diss 7. John Habershon (3 for 41), Simon Key (2 for 27) and Vinay Parikh (2 for 29) were the pick of Brooke’s bowlers, while Stuart Pritty, with 1 for 37 off 13 overs, kept up the pressure on the Diss batsmen. ------------------------------ Saturday 20th June Match Report - Alliance Premier vs North Runcton (Home) The North Runcton skipper won the toss and put us in – after 17 overs we were 55 for 5, with John Reynolds (27) the only batsman to reach double figures at this stage. Stuart Pritty and Ali Shearer then took the score to 120, when Stuart was run out for 28. Ali and John Habershon put together a great partnership of 96 for the 8th wicket and Brooke were all out for 226 in the 50th over – Ali hitting 57 and John 53 (from only 48 balls). We had several breaks for rain during the afternoon and when North Runcton were 25 for 1 the heavens opened again. This heavy downpour caused the abandonment of the match, with both teams getting 10 points. ----------------------------------- Saturday 13th June Match Report - Alliance Premier vs Cromer (Home) Rob Panter won the toss and inserted Cromer on a damp track. They quickly lost wickets to hostile bowling from John Habershon and Rob Borges and after 4 overs they were 10 for 3. David Turner (61) and Colin Brown (63) were the only batsmen to reach double figures and Cromer were eventually all out for 185 just before the end of their 50 overs. Vinay Parikh was a star with the ball this week and took 6 for 23 in only 5.4 overs, with 4 clean bowled! Rob Borges took 2 for 11 and John Habershon 1 for 45. The Brooke batsmen paced the innings well and we coasted to a winning total of 189 for 5 in 40 overs. Chris Sheehy top-scored with 57 not out, while Vinay Parikh got 29, Ben Prentice 26 and Ali Shearer 20. It is worth noting that Brooke bowled 22 wides and Cromer 35! ------------------------------
Saturday 6th June Match Report - Alliance Premier vs Topcroft (away) We won the toss and batted, scoring a massive 316 for 9 in our 50 overs. Vinay Parikh hit a brilliant 107 from 101 balls, Chris Sheehy 68 (62 in boundaries!) Rob Panter 36 and Rob Borges 28. Adam Todd was Topcroft’s best bowler with 3 for 73. Topcroft never went for these runs and we had them 188 for 8 at the end. Rob Panter (3 for 31) and John Habershon (2 for 57) were the top bowlers, while Simon Key, Vinay Parikh and Stuart Pritty got one wicket each. Greg Rostron scored 44 for Topcroft, with Ian Todd getting 42 and David Todd 41. The winning draw gave us 18 points and Topcroft 8 points. ---------------------------------
Saturday 30th May Match Report - Alliance Premier vs Lowestoft (away) Brooke batted first and after 13 overs we were reduced to 28 for 4. Only Richard Timm stayed at the crease for any time and was eventually out for a very well made 41. Chris Sheehy hit 33 and near the end Rob Borges scored 21, including 2 massive 6s, while Peter Sims and Tom Brice, with 3 wickets each, bowled well for Lowestoft . We were eventually dismissed for 155 in 45.2 overs. Rob Borges captured the prize wicket of Peter Sims early on, but despite tight bowling from the Brooke attack, Lowestoft achieved their target for the loss of 6 wickets in the 47th over. Stuart Pritty was the pick of Brooke’s bowling, taking 1 for 38 in a marathon spell of 14 overs. Other wickets fell to Rob Panter (2 for 40) and John Habershon (2 for 50). -------------------------------- Saturday 23rd May Match Report - Alliance Premier vs Downham (home) Brooke batted first and with only Stuart Pritty making a significant score, 41 not out, we were restricted to 172 for 8 in 50 overs. Downham won the match fairly comfortably, ending on 177 for 4 in 41.5 overs. The South African S Murdoch dominated the innings with a controlled 105 not out. 4 matched played now in the Alliance Premier – 2 won and 2 lost leaving us 5th in the table. ---------------------------- Saturday 16th May Match Report - Alliance Premier vs Swardeston (away) Brooke batted first and after 13 overs we were in big trouble at 47 for 6, before Ed Sturman and Stuart Pritty put together a magnificent match-changing partnership of 178 for the 7th wicket. Ed’s maiden Alliance century (102 not out) came from 121 balls and he hit 5 6s and 9 4s. Stuart provided great support with 55 and we finished on 240 for 7 in our 50 overs. Chris Gardiner was Swardeston’s best bowler, taking 4 for 60. Swardeston’s openers made a good start, putting on 79, but after that Brooke’s bowlers removed their batsmen at regular intervals and they were all out for 199 in the last over. Top bowlers for Brooke were Vinay Parikh with 2 for 24, Rob Panter 2 for 31 and Simon Key 2 for 41. John Habershon also bowled well, taking 1 for 35 in his 9 overs. We have now accumulated 55 points after 3 league matches – a much better start than our 2007 season in the Premier Division. -------------------------------- Saturday 9th May Match Report - Alliance Premier vs Acle (away) Rob Panter won the toss and put Acle in to bat on a wicket with “a bit of grass on it” They were bowled out for 210 in exactly 50 overs with Haydn Murray scoring 66 and David Huggins 56. Rob Panter was again the pick of our bowlers with 4 for 43. John Habershon took 3 for 43 and Stuart Pritty 2 for 55. Brooke almost forced a draw, but the last man was dismissed off the penultimate delivery and Acle won by 20 runs. Chris Sheehy hit 53 off 49 balls, with John Reynolds getting 43 and Vinay Parikh 30. Paul Newman bowled well for Acle, taking 5 for 31. Although it was disappointing to lose, we got 8 points and now have 30 for the season after 2 matches. -------------------------------- Saturday 2nd May Match Report - Alliance Premier vs Cromer (away) Brooke returned to the Alliance Premier with a hard-fought win away to Cromer. Chris Sheehy top scored with 38 in Brooke’s total of 166, while Colin Brown took 5 for 42. The bowling and fielding from Brooke were superb – there were 3 wickets each for Rob Panter (brilliant figures of 3 for 14 off 11) and John Habershon with Vinay Parikh taking 2 for 14. Cromer’s Ben Clarke scored a quick 52, but they were bowled out for 145, giving us a 21 run win and 22 points. Great start to the season! ----------------------------------------
Saturday 18th April Match Report - Friendly vs Sprowston (home) In the first of two pre-season friendlies, Brooke played Horsford in a 45 over match. Horsford made a total of 237 for 6, Luke Finlay hitting 70 and Luke Caswell 43. John Habershon took 2 for 46, while Vinay Parikh, Stuart Pritty and Rob Panter shared the other 3. Ollie Stamp looked promising in his 3 overs. Brooke replied with 135 all out with Vinay Parikh getting 40 and Simon Cushing 25.
