Biss Rose Bowl Final v Fakenham

Fakenham won the toss and put Brooke in. Up against some very tight bowling, Rob Panter and Simon Cushing batted well to post an opening partnership of 54, Rob scoring 34 and Simon 24. With Vinay Parikh again unlucky to get out and Chris Sheehy running himself out going for a sharp single, the rest of the batting struggled. Only Alex Ingham with 21 and Michael Warner with 14 made any impression and Brooke were bowled out for 172 in 48.4 overs.

Stuart Pritty dismissed one of the Fakenham openers cheaply, but Keegan de Ridder with 87 (and the Man of the Match award) and Philip Gray with 30 not out helped Fakenham reach the target in the 40th over.

It’s the second year running we have lost in the final of the Biss Rose Bowl - let’s hope it’s third time lucky in the summer of 2009!

Sunday 29th June

Biss Rose Bowl Semi Final v Beccles (home)

Brooke went through to the final of the Biss Rose Bowl with a 77 run win over Beccles. We batted first and thanks to a brilliant marathon effort from Rob Panter, who made 131 not out, we ran up a total of 255 for 7 in our 50 overs. John Habershon supported well with 39 towards the end.

At one stage, Beccles were 135 for 2, but lost their last 8 wickets for 43 runs as they were bowled out for 178. Vinay Parikh, with 6 for 24 including a hat-trick, and Stuart Pritty, 3 for 39, took the bowling honours.

Sunday 8th June

Carter Cup v Acle (away)

In the second round of the Carter Cup, Acle batted first on a difficult, damp track and were dismissed for 135 in 48 overs. Darren Ward top-scored for Acle with 41, while Stuart Pritty, with 3 for 14, was the pick of Brooke’s bowlers. Nick Prentice, Spencer Jackson and John Habershon each got 2 wickets.

A terrific bowling performance from Acle then saw Brooke shot out for 87, with Neil Grady taking 4 for 17 and Paul Newman 2 for 6. John Habershon, with 20 not out, was one of only 4 Brooke batsmen to get double figures.

Sunday 1st June

Plate vs Norwich and Coltishall Wanderers (home)

After a brilliant warm up, Brooke lost the toss and fielded first on a damp outfield. Chris Banham (2/18) yet again removed the openers and John Habershon (0/20) was unlucky after bowling a very good looking opening spell. Spencer Jackson (4/41) tore through the middle order leaving Lynden Brown stranded on 49 and Norwich all out for 112. Chris Sheehy was excellent behind the stumps and keeps his international dreams alive.

Brooke never looked in doubt as Paul Daynes (53) and Simon Cushing (22) comfortably took Brooke to 77 before they were both removed. The remaining runs were negotiated by Ed Sturman and John Andrews as Brooke cruised to 116/2 and a home semi-final against Horsford.

Sunday 4th May

Carter Cup vs Norwich and Coltishall Wanderers (away)

Brooke batted first on a difficult wicket and accumulated 158 for 8 in their 60 overs. Vinay Parikh again batted well, scoring 40, and was  supported with 37 from Rob Panter and 22 not out from John Habershon towards the end. Stu Alexander was the pick of the home bowling, taking 3 for 36.

When they replied, NCW were soon reduced to 26 for 5 after a fine opening spell from Chris Banham. Lyndon Brown and Darren Jackson repaired the damage, but Rob Panter bowled Brown in the over before tea and the balance of the match turned in Brooke’s direction. Chris Banham mopped up the tail and Brooke won by 21 runs.
